About We Love Larson

A visual storyteller and illustrator from Maryland, Derek Larson now lives in Savannah, Ga., where he works as a full-time studio artist. Larson journeyed to the South for a SCAD sequential art M.F.A. in 2010 and never left.Larson became a full-time studio artist in 2020, selling his ceramic mushrooms, gnomes, and whimsical characters in small boutiques across the country. After three years hand-making distinctively fantastical sculptures, Larson packed up his home ceramics studio in Summer 2023 and pivoted back to his graduate degree training in illustration and storytelling. Today, Larson is illustrating lush watercolor landscapes and buildings (with whimsical characters making their rightful appearances) and working on a series of children's picture books.
